9 July 06 – Wayne’s World Tuna
Fished on Sunday. Got a late start, left the dock at 4:45, cleared the saltponds inlet and someone forgot the hoos (me), turn around to go get them, back underway at 5:15. Started out at the 21 Fathom Finger. Lots of weeds everywhere, could not keep lines out for long. Then came the bluefish again. 7 knots, 8 knots, still not fast enough for them things. I get a chicken dolphin. Then came a big hit, drag screaming. After a 15 minute fight, hook pulls. Our guess a big BFT. Decide to troll east to the 30 fathom line. Nothing. Head north along the 30 fathom line until a few miles south of the Norfolk Canyon. Found a nice class of YFT up to 60 pounds. Went 4 for 8 YFT. One nice one lost at the boat a second away from the gaff. Trolled back west to the 20 fathom line and picked up 2 gaffer dolphin.
Fish came on everything today, no special color. Some on top, some on a planer, some on an inline. BTW, if anyone catches a big YFT with a Jimmy K blue spreader bar hanging out of it’s mouth, please let me know. Got a great video of Greg fishing this fish to a stalemate, line breaks and he flies backward onto the deck.
Final catch
0 for 1 BFT
3 for 3 Mahi
4 for 8 YTF
8 for 8 bluefish

Rigging with Greg and Naved.
All the bluefish you could want…got to get away from these things…go east.

Naved (NJ) got a nice YFT.

Curtis cranks in a 60 pounder after losing 2 others.

Need bigger fish boxes. On the list, a tuna bag.

Nice one for the Captain.

Anne got one too.

Lanie's favorite fish is the one she catches.

Just thought this was a neat shot of draining the fish boxes.

Meat.
OK, now we are really hooked on offshore fishing. Looking forward to the next window to chase them.
