05 Nov 06/Me and My Mate
Decided to do something we haven’t done before, went offshore with just me and the wife, Lanie. We left Saturday afternoon and overnighted at Rudee Inlet to put us closer to the action. Left Rudee at 4:45 AM, I do like Rudee Inlet at night, first it’s lit up like a Christmas tree, then after you clear the inlet, there are zero other obstacles to worry about.
Headed SE to bumpy quartering seas and found 72 degree (a 12 degree break) water just south of the southern tip of the cigar and put lines in at 20 fathoms. Lost three wahoo, two on a red/white stretch 30 (on wire) and one on a wahoo wacker. Headed east looking for the break and found it where a mini fleet had already been working between 50 and 150 fathoms.
First hit was a quadruple but with only 2 of us on the boat, we did good to get 2 fish to the boat. Next hit was a triple and we got 2 to the boat. Talk about challenging fighting multiple hookups with only Lanie and me. But she did great, even her first time on the gaff.
Ended the day with 4 nice YFT losing that many as well. Couldn’t run too many lines with just 2 on board but I thought we did well under the circumstances. Tried to get our last 2 for a limit of 6 but with the reduced amount of daylight this time of year, we had to pack it in early and head in.
Here’s a few pics. No video this time….nobody available to run the camera. Time to put away the offshore gear and focus on the stripers now.
